In one of the most stunning political victories in American history, the incumbent team of Richard M. Nixon and Spiro T. Agnew defeated the democratic challengers of George S. McGovern and R. Sargent Shriver carrying all but one state and the District of Columbia. McGovern's campaign was severely injured with the replacement of Thomas Eagleton as his running mate when it was revealed that Eagleton had received treatment for depression. The Nixon Era Center is pleased to provide streaming video of the campaign commercials for both the Nixon and McGovern camps. It is particularly interesting to note that on the "Democrats for McGovern" commercial the voter is saying to himself that he wasn't crazy about either Nixon or McGovern. In light of recent campaign mudslinging, it's refreshing to experience the media campaign of 30 years ago. You will need Real Player to view these commercials.
